If you have specific questions about the dog not made clear in this listing, please feel free to ask, keeping in mind that the FIRST STEP TOWARD ADOPTION is to submit an application. Ol'e (pronounced Olay) is a very young dog. He came from a high kill shelter. He was brought in as a stray, although I am not sure how they caught him unless it was in a trap. He is very, very frightened. This is the type of dog that would be euthanized in a kill shelter because he did not show well in that stressful atmosphere (most Chihuahuas do not). In order to give him a second chance at life, Rescue agreed to take him. He needs a lot of socialization. He has to be cornered to be caught. Once he is caught, he does not flee or stiffen up. He will soon learn he enjoys being handled after a while and as time passes, he becomes less tense. There should be no small children in his future due to his fear issues. It is a mystery what happened in this young dog's life to make him so fearful. What kind of past must he have had? Obviously he didn't have anyone who loved and cared about him. Would you like to change that for him? Through no fault of his own, he was tossed out like yesterday's garbage and would like to be given another chance to be someone's beloved pet. It is important to realize that there is ALWAYS a period of adjustment when adding a rescue dog to a family. that will take time and patience and understanding. Some require more time and patience than others and there may very well be an issue or two to work through in order to earn their trust and overcome their fears and lack of socialization. He needs someone willing to look past his fear and apprehension and to help him come out of his shell. He is painfully shy. Please remember, THERE ARE NO PERFECT DOGS, no matter what the background. Dogs generally become what you make of them through your efforts, love, patience, and understanding. And--if you are willing to overlook their slight imperfections, they will certainly overlook yours! We do process the applications in the order that they are received. We cannot guarantee any particular dog will still be available by the time we get to your application. We cannot respond to each application or keep you updated as we go along. We do not consider a dog adopted until the process has been completed and a contract has been signed. As long as the dog is still listed, it is still available and we are processing applications. As soon as a dog is adopted, it is removed from the list. If you apply and your application is approved, we will contact you. If you decide not to wait or find another dog, please let us know so we can go on to another application.
